Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Development

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) are among the most critical engineering documents used throughout the lifecycle of a process facility. Yet effectively working with P&IDs requires more than knowing how to read symbols or follow drawing conventions. Professionals must understand the engineering intent behind each element and how piping, equipment, instrumentation, controls, operations, maintenance, and safety considerations come together within the complete system.

This course provides a practical understanding of how P&IDs are developed, interpreted, reviewed, and applied in process facilities. Participants will explore the principles and management of P&ID development; piping, valves, and process equipment; instrumentation and control systems; utilities; and the operational, maintenance, and safety considerations that influence P&ID design. Rather than focusing only on what appears on a drawing, the course examines why information is included and the engineering principles and design considerations behind it.

Designed for professionals working in oil refining, gas processing, petrochemical, and batch or continuous process facilities, this course will strengthen participants' ability to confidently interpret and work with P&IDs throughout design, operation, and maintenance. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. Behnam Soleymani is a Chemical and Process Engineer with more than 14 years of experience in the oil, gas, refining, and petrochemical industries. Throughout his career, he has worked across EPC firms, consulting organizations, and operating facilities, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of engineering design, project execution, commissioning, and plant operations.

Currently serving as a Senior Process Engineer at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Behnam has contributed to major refining, gas processing, and petrochemical projects throughout various stages of the facility lifecycle. His broad industry experience gives him a practical perspective on how engineering principles are applied in real-world environments.

In addition to his industry experience, Behnam has a longstanding passion for education and mentoring. He has served as an instructor at both the university and professional levels, including teaching Reactor Design and Engineering at Christian Brothers University. By combining extensive industry experience with years of teaching and mentoring, Behnam helps engineers bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, providing insights that can be immediately applied in engineering and operating environments.
