2026 Smart Outdoor Lighting for Tomorrow

Strategy, Funding, Technology & Case Studies

June 16 - 17, 2026 Atlanta, GA Georgia Power HQ

“The conference was great mix of industry professionals and an informative exchange of knowledge and best practices.”

Director Lighting Programs, Duke Energy

Outdoor lighting systems can reduce energy costs, improve public safety, and create the foundation for smart city services, but only if they are planned and deployed effectively.

Utilities and municipalities are transforming lighting networks into connected infrastructure platforms that support efficiency, data, and new community services. Yet many organizations are still navigating key questions around funding models, technology standards, operational management, and long-term system value.

The second annual Smart Outdoor Lighting Conference, hosted by Georgia Power in Atlanta, brings together utilities, municipalities, and technology providers to share practical strategies for planning, financing, deploying, and managing next-generation lighting systems.

Attendees will gain insights into:

  • Financing and cost analytics for large-scale lighting modernization
  • Selecting interoperable technologies and standards that avoid stranded assets
  • Managing system lifecycle, operations, and workforce transitions
  • Integrating lighting infrastructure with smart city services, AI, and emerging technologies
  • Addressing privacy, equity, and community engagement during deployment

Join your peers in Atlanta to explore how utilities and cities are turning outdoor lighting into a smarter, more efficient infrastructure asset.

MLGW Case Study: From Energy Savings to Smart Cities

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), in partnership with Ubicquia and Ameresco, undertook one of the largest municipal smart lighting projects in the United States, converting over 77,000 streetlights to LED fixtures integrated with Ubicquia’s networked controls. Completed in just 11 months, the initiative aimed to enhance public safety, improve operational efficiency, and advance sustainability goals. The project delivered annual energy savings of approximately 37 million kWh, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 26,000 metric tons, and is projected to generate $41 million in cost savings over 15 years. Beyond energy efficiency, the deployment leveraged Ubicquia’s smart streetlight platform to enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and data-driven insights for city operations. This case exemplifies how utility-led smart infrastructure projects can accelerate climate action, optimize asset management, and support equitable urban development.

TerraGo Case Study: Customer Spotlights with Southern Company, Exelon, Duke Energy, and CPS Energy

This customer spotlights case study demonstrates how a unified, outdoor lighting operations platform can bring together smart and traditional lighting infrastructure—networked lighting controls, photocells, solar lights, fixtures, poles, and associated circuits—into one pane of glass. By aggregating multi-vendor data, automating alert-to-issue-to-work-order workflows, and synchronizing real-time updates to enterprise systems, the outdoor lighting operations platform lowers O&M costs, reduces truck rolls, and improves restoration and service levels at true utility and city scale.
