“A good starter course and refresher in all the basics.”

Electrical Design Engineer, RMF Engineering

Electric Power Distributors are seeing increased pressure from communities to move overhead lines underground for a variety of reasons including storm hardening (reliability), aesthetics and new construction requirements.

This course will describe the varying degrees of underground power distribution and move quickly into the design philosophies. Discussion will contrast overhead to underground systems and describe the difference in materials, technology, construction, and operation.

This is the ideal course for engineers and project managers new to underground distribution projects or anyone looking for a more in-depth look at underground distribution systems. Special discounts apply for groups of 5 or more so register your whole team today!

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the major materials including conductor types and connecting systems used in underground systems
  • Define Loop Feed Configuration, critical for quick power restoration
  • List pad-mount transformer components and function
  • Contrast operating strategies from overhead to underground systems
  • Analyze typical faults and mitigation methods
  • Discuss operating safety requirements and equipment
  • Compare cost of overhead to underground distribution
