Sonny Miller is an industrial automation specialist and has over 20 years’ experience in the electrical systems and control systems disciplines. Sonny is currently a manager in operations for Rancho California Water District in Temecula California. Sonny has a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, a PMP (Project Management Professional), a Water Distribution 2 certification and Treatment 2 certification from the state of California. Sonny also has an Infrastructure Protection certification from Texas A&M and a CSSA (Certified SCADA Security Architect) from Infosec. The last two deal with physical and cyber-security. Sonny’s career specialty is solving real world problems through technology and automation with a more recent focus on cyber-security for OT (Operations Technology).
Sonny spent the first part of his career in manufacturing and he has worked in just about every type of manufacturing facility to include aerospace, food, wood-working, stone-working and medical device. Sonny has worked with large and small companies on electrification projects and various types of control systems/automation projects. For the last nine years Sonny has worked for a water district in southern California called Rancho California Water District. He started his water career in water in the Electrical Services department working on MCC’s, VFD’s, PLC’s, various field telemetry and the SCADA system. In 2018 Sonny took over as the Electrical Services Supervisor for Rancho Water and in 2023 Sonny was promoted to management position. In his time at Rancho California Water District, he has designed and implemented many automation projects including working with USGS to automate water flows at a site to meet legal requirements, a new SCADA system, automating surge tanks to save staff eight to ten days a month and a new automated well sounding system.
