Utilities Support in Economic Growth

In today’s competitive landscape for economic development and site selection, prospects demand speed, strong incentive packages, and infrastructure-ready sites. This session will highlight the establishment of the Opportunity Kentucky Grant Fund, which aims to address site inventory challenges through strategic investment, increase the quantity and quality of available sites, and foster collaboration among Kentucky’s economic development stakeholders. LG&E and KU, recognized as a top U.S. utility for corporate facility investment and job creation, supported 76 projects in 2024, representing nearly $2.8 billion in announced investments and 3,113 new jobs. Companies in their service territories accounted for 45% of statewide investment announcements, with 39% of the investments and 34% of the jobs landing in LG&E and KU’s footprint. In the session, the following topics will be covered:

  • Kentucky’s incentive program and its success stories
  • ROI and LG&E and KU’s role in supporting economic growth
  • Involvement in site selection
  • Case studies of utility-driven projects

Derek Rahn Manager, Business and Economic Development LG&E and KU Energy
