Overview

This training program is designed for Civil Engineers working in the infrastructure sector and will provide a basic understanding of skills needed to effectively manage a construction project.  The training will cover the following topics with an emphasis on infrastructure projects:  contracts, bidding, financing, code compliance, project planning, scheduling, project control, communication, safety, quality, litigation, and potential environmental issues. 

The contracts, bidding, and code compliance portion will focus on pre-construction activities.  The project planning, scheduling, control, and communication will focus on the construction phase.  Safety, quality, and environmental will be addressed in general terms for infrastructure projects. 

The course is designed for individuals with limited knowledge of the actual project management process for infrastructure projects.  The course material will be a useful resource for future reference. The program will be interactive in nature and utilize case studies and small group exercises.

  1. Discuss the basic types of contracts
  2. Examine the bidding and contract selection process
  3. Explain financing options
  4. Clarify code compliance as it relates to particular projects
  5. Analyze pre-construction requirements needed for project success
  6. Identify types of project schedules commonly used and how to use these as a control tool
  7. Allocate and control budget and resources
  8. Develop communication tools and techniques
  9. Evaluate how safety and quality are intertwined with project controls
  10. Highlight ways to avoid litigation
  11. Anticipate potential environmental issues with infrastructure projects

EUCI has been accredited as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).  In obtaining this accreditation, EUCI has demonstrated that it  complies with the ANSI/IACET Standard which is recognized internationally as a standard of good practice. As a result of their Authorized Provider status, EUCI is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.

EUCI is authorized by IACET to offer 1.0 CEUs for this event.

 

Requirements for Successful Completion of Program

Participants must sign in/out each day and be in attendance for the entirety of the course to be eligible for continuing education credit.

Instructional Methods

Case studies, PowerPoint presentations and classroom exercises will be used in this course.

Instructors

Professor Kristy Wolfe

Professor Kristy Wolfe has been an Assistant Professor at Bradley University since January 2008.  Professor Wolfe has her Bachelor of Science in Construction from Bradley University and her Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla.  Professor Wolfe brings a unique set of skills to the world of academia with the field experience she gained as a facilities engineer with Caterpillar along with her time serving with the United States Army Corps of Engineers.  She currently serves as the faculty advisory for Bradley’s Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and Habitat for Humanity.  Professor Wolfe is also the President of the Board of Directors for the Central Illinois Riding Therapy, which provides equine therapy to children and adults with physical, emotional and behavioral issues, and also serves as the Hallock Township Clerk. Her research interests include green construction, productivity method improvement, leadership development, workforce dynamics, and ethics in engineering education.

Any organization wishing to send multiple attendees to these conferences may send 1 FREE for every 3 delegates registered. Please note that all registrations must be made at the same time to qualify.

Cancellation Policy

Your registration may be transferred to a member of your organization up to 24 hours in advance of the event. Cancellations must be received on or before October 13, 2017 in order to be refunded and will be subject to a US $195.00 processing fee per registrant. No refunds will be made after this date. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. In the event of non-attendance, all registration fees will be forfeited. In case of conference cancellation, EUCIs liability is limited to refund of the event registration fee only.
