Electric Distribution Protection Basics
October 17-18, 2023 | Online :: Central Time
“Helpful first session for non-distribution engineers to start in their understanding of the topic.” Manager Engineering, Grant County PUD
In our Electric Distribution Protection Basics course our expert instructors start by diving deep into protection philosophies and methods, giving you a comprehensive understanding of the essential principles. Then, we introduce you to the critical single-phase sectionalizing equipment, including fuse cutouts, single-phase recloser, and single-phase sectionalizers.
You’ll learn all about minimum pickup, reach, and maximum available fault current, giving you the tools you need to tackle any line sectionalizing challenge. But we don’t stop there. Our course also covers a full range of device-to-device coordination scenarios, giving you the skills you need to excel in any situation. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to take your electric distribution protection expertise to the next level.
Special discounts are available for groups of five or more so sign up your whole team today!

Martin Bishop, Sr. Consulting Engineer
Martin T. Bishop (IEEE Member 1978, Senior Member 1988) received a BS and ME in EPE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He also completed an MBA at the Keller Graduate School of Management. His first position was with Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA in the Advanced Systems Technology division. He was the lead engineer on a project to develop new protection systems to detect fallen distribution conductors. Marty worked for 20 years in the Systems Engineering department at Cooper Power Systems where he supervised a group that performed industrial studies, power quality measurements and designed filter systems for large industrial plants. He also participated in the development and application of new relay protection systems using Rogowski coil current sensors. The work developed and applied the first differential protection systems for electric arc furnace transformers. In 2010, he joined S&C as a Sr. Marketing Manager within the Strategic Solutions Business Unit. His group focused on power system applications of STATCOM systems for renewable plants and general power quality applications. He is presently a principal engineer in the Feeder Automation product management group.
