Introduction to Non-Pipeline Solutions

Introduction to Non-Pipeline Solutions

September 22, 2021 | Online ::

Overview

This Non-Pipeline Solutions course will provide an introductory-level knowledge of how Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) act as alternatives to help fill the demand in areas not served by traditional pipelines.

The program will begin with a history of the development of interstate pipeline systems and the evolution of gas distribution systems. Content will then transition into the equipment, variations, types of trailers, and types of regulating seen when it comes to portable CNG and LNG, later diving into how and why utilities use portables. The course will conclude with discussing the capabilities of non-pipeline solutions in the future as we continue in adapting to the energy transition.

This course is not just geared towards those who are actively participating in projects revolving around portable pipelines, but also for those who are curious about the process or believe their organization will be working with these solutions in some capacity down the road.

Learning Outcomes

  • Review the evolution of gas distribution systems, including the development of the systems, peaking systems, and capacity constraints
  • Explain portable compressed natural gas and portable liquefied natural gas and their equipment, variations, and types
  • Examine how utilities use portables and review real-use cases through a National Grid study
  • Discuss the future capabilities of mobile pipelines and how renewable natural gas fits in
  • Consider how utilities are preparing for the energy transition and how distributed systems can be a part of that transition
