Electrical Capital Project Management

Electrical Capital Project Management

August 25-26, 2021 | Online :: Central Time

Participants of the Electrical Capital Project Management course will understand how to conceptualize, plan, execute, and successfully complete an electric capital project. We will start off with learning the types of electrical capital projects (substations and lines), business cases, strategy, and how utilities earn money. After laying the groundwork, the course will move into how to initiate electrical capital projects (sponsorship, scope, and approval). The agenda then moves onto budget estimate, project scheduling, document controlling, team building and leadership, and continues towards conceptual design and procurement plans. This program will then transition into the actual execution of the electrical capital project, detailed engineering, highlighting quality assurance, cost controlling, equipment, commissioning, risks and more. Finally, we will finish off with how to close out an electric capital project with information on how to gauge lessons learned and how to celebrate success.

Learning Outcomes

  • Review which types of projects qualify as electrical capital projects
  • Identify the full project management process from initiation to close
  • Examine how to begin a project (who the stakeholders are, project scope definition, and the project approval)
  • Evaluate the right way to plan a project and how to keep an eye on audits, cost estimation, resources, software, etc.
  • Plan the best way to conceptualize design, standards, most optimal solution, evaluate risks, and review procurement contracts
  • Determine how to execute an electrical capital project, such as evaluating changes and risks, delivering equipment and materials, and verifying the scope of the project
