Introduction to Gas Insulated Substations

This course will attempt to provide an in-depth understanding of Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), including design, construction, operations, and maintenance. Attendees will gain a perspective from both an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and utility on the lifecycle journey to a GIS installation including costs and long-term ROI. As more utilities consider making a cost-benefit analysis, they must consider more factors than just real estate. It is important for prospective utilities to gain a thorough understanding of real costs, community buy-in, compliance factors, and other necessary investments to effectively create a plan forward. This course will provide updated information for utilities on these topics and plenty of room to discuss custom projects and answer questions.

Business and Product Manager for Siemens GIS High Voltage Products in the US, Gilles Barthes is responsible for the Front End GIS business: Sales, Marketing, Tendering and Product Development for the US Market at Siemens.
Involved in the High Voltage GIS business over 18 years, Gilles started in France with Merlin Gerin, Schneider owned, developing Spain and South America GIS Markets and moved to the US through VATECH acquisition of Schneider High Voltage in 2002.
Siemens acquired VATECH in 2005 and since then, Gilles has been in charge of Siemens penetration of the GIS market with significant sales in the East Coast of the US, built the GIS range for the US market specifics and actively participated to transform the local US setup from a sales office to a local and key autonomous GIS business unit for Siemens.
Rajinder Rai, Principal Substation Engineer, Seattle City Light
Rajinder has been working in Substations Engineering for 17 years with City of Seattle with main focus on distribution and transmission switchgear controls, replacements, retrofits, equipment specifications, procurement, maintenance and diagnostics. Other responsibilities include power transformer replacements and substation ground grid improvements.

Your registration may be transferred to a member of your organization up to 24 hours in advance of the event. Cancellations must be received on or before July 17, 2020 in order to be refunded and will be subject to a US $195.00 processing fee per registrant. No refunds will be made after this date. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. In the event of non-attendance, all registration fees will be forfeited. In case of conference cancellation, EUCIs liability is limited to refund of the event registration fee only.
