Unmanned Systems continue to prove themselves as an essential service to the energy industry. A growing number of utilities have benefited from adopting drones and other unmanned systems to inspect transmission and distribution infrastructure, generation facilities, renewable infrastructure, and other operations as they seek to increase efficiency, aid in asset management, cut costs, and improve worker safety.

This course will present a survey of concepts and practical materials for operating Unmanned Systems with applications for Utilities.  This program will cover the fundamental elements of a successful drone program including what you should know about the possibilities, uses of and how to implement a program. Participants will learn mission planning, UAV operations, field data collection procedures, data processing, and data analysis. Legal, ethical considerations, and economic advantages will be reviewed for a utility application as well.

Attendees will benefit directly from discussions on the beneficial use of unmanned systems through the course material and be able to directly apply this knowledge at their workplace.

Jeffery Cozart, CEO, Juniper Unmanned

Jeff Cozart is the Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and Founder of Juniper Unmanned, a consultancy to help enterprises and governments generate value from drone-based remote sensing.  Jeff is also a member of the faculty in the College of Engineering at the University of Colorado where he has taught graduate level courses since 2013. He specializes in remote sensing applications and data sciences.  He was also a member of the Aviation and Aerospace Science faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2015 to 2017.  Jeff worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as it implemented commercial regulations for unmanned aircraft operations.  Jeff is also a board member of UAS Colorado and a founder of the Rocky Mountain UAS Professionals Meetup group. He received a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in 2003.

Walt Hodges, UAS Ops & Training – Aviation Services, Tennessee Valley Authority

Walt Hodges manages the UAS department for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) by leading and executing UAS operations and training programs across the TVA enterprise. Previously, he managed vegetation and supported line construction activities on transmission line rights-of-way handling contractor supervision, work planning, and public communication.

Your registration may be transferred to a member of your organization up to 24 hours in advance of the event. Cancellations must be received on or before June 24, 2022 in order to be refunded and will be subject to a US $195.00 processing fee per registrant. No refunds will be made after this date. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. In the event of non-attendance, all registration fees will be forfeited. In case of conference cancellation, EUCIs liability is limited to refund of the event registration fee only.
