Intro to Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR)
July 25, 2017 | Online :: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Eastern
Overview
With ever-increasing customer demands for a highly reliable supply of electric power and energy, distribution utilities must avail themselves of new technology and evolving design techniques to insure customer satisfaction. One of the newest and most effective ways to meet this challenge is through the use of fault location, isolation & service restoration (FLISR) at the medium voltage operating level.
This webinar will provide an overview of FLISR technology and how it can be deployed at the medium voltage distribution level on overhead utility circuitry. Attendees will be exposed to FLISR design techniques, including the positive impacts to the reliability indices SAIDI, SAIFI and CAIDI. The instructor will discuss the steps for how a utility can begin installing a FLISR system, communications options, and strategies for field device placement to optimize FLISR results. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session.
Learning Outcomes
- Define Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration and related terms
- Discuss Manual vs. Automatic Sectionalizing
- Review different types of communications methods & topologies
- Examine how to choose the proper field devices to automate
- Analyze how to quantify reliability improvements
- Evaluate placement of field devices for optimal results
- Discuss a case study of full system-wide FLISR deployment
