This seminar will explore the keys and speedbumps in order to successfully implement a Geographic Information System solution at your company. This can be a full system replacement, upgrade, or a smaller project such as integrations and version upgrades. This will highlight core Project Management principles but with a specific GIS focus, which will result in the participants leaving with an enhanced understanding of project management from justifying the project to celebrating the results.
- Justify what is encompassed in a GIS project and what drives the initiative
- Discuss how to establish a team and set the scope of the project
- Gauge how to receive executive approval efficiently to start a project, as well as the methods on how to staff the project
- Review vendor selection, management oversight, and project execution and principles
- Recognize how to communicate effectively with your staff and how to handle the inevitable issues that are presented
- Review how to close a project and how to implement sustainment practices

Chuck Legg, Professional Engineer, Province of Ontario
Chuck’s career spanned 37 years in the natural gas industry at a natural gas storage, transmission and distribution company in Ontario, Canada. His experience included various Engineering, Operations, and GIS roles within the Utility, and he was the Project Lead for a corporate-wide GIS Replacement Program and subsequently managed the Corporate GIS system. His experience also includes field operations, engineering design, system planning, and engineering standards.
During his career he also spent time mentoring and training new Engineers. He was also involved in various industry committees and organizations and presented at industry conferences during his career. Chuck graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and a current member of GITA.
We will be using Microsoft Teams to facilitate your participation in the upcoming event. You do not need to have an existing Teams account in order to participate in the broadcast – the course will play in your browser and you will have the option of using a microphone to speak with the room and ask questions, or type any questions in via the chat window and our on-site representative will relay your question to the instructor.

Your registration may be transferred to a member of your organization up to 24 hours in advance of the event. Cancellations must be received on or before May 14, 2021 in order to be refunded and will be subject to a US $195.00 processing fee per registrant. No refunds will be made after this date. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. In the event of non-attendance, all registration fees will be forfeited. In case of conference cancellation, EUCIs liability is limited to refund of the event registration fee only.
