Overview of Transmission Splicing and Maintenance of the Underground Transmission System

Overview of Transmission Splicing and Maintenance of the Underground Transmission System

January 27-28, 2021 | Online ::

Underground transmission is a costly and complicated project type. One of the most complicated components of an underground transmission line are the splices connecting two cables together. If you are interested in learning more about how these splices are accomplished and the maintenance required, this course will provide you with a high-level overview of transmission splicing and the processes involved. In addition, a review of required maintenance of lines and splices will be reviewed.

This is the ideal course for engineers of underground transmission projects, project managers or anyone involved with underground transmission and desiring a more detailed understanding of splicing.

Learning Outcomes

  • Review the different types of underground transmission cables covering High Pressure Fluid Filled (HPFF) and Extruded Cable (XLPE, EPR, and PE)
  • Detail the system components of each type of cable by covering system design, cables, structures, supports and accessories
  • Describe HPFF cable preparation and installation: pipe preparations, cable pulling operation, splicing, terminations, and pumping plants
  • Review solid dielectric preparation and splicing with cable pulling and installation, splice preparations and splicing, and terminations
  • Explain preventative maintenance procedures and testing covering inspections, testing methods and planning
