About the Instructors:

Ryan Pletka, Director of Renewables Strategy and Planning Services, Renewable Energy Group, Black & Veatch

Ryan Pletka is the Director of Renewables Strategy and Planning Services for Black & Veatch's renewable energy group. He directs work in the company's San Francisco office focusing on assessments of renewable, advanced, and distributed energy technologies. Ryan has participated in Black & Veatch assessments of more than 100 renewable energy projects and technologies since joining the company in the 1990's. His experience includes projects representing a wide variety of generation technologies including wind, biomass, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and ocean energy. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.


Tim Mason, Project Manager, Renewable Energy Group, Black & Veatch

Tim Mason is a Project Manager in Black & Veatch's Renewable Energy practice, consulting to a variety of private, utility and governmental clients on renewable energy procurement, project development, and market issues. Tim has over 20 years of energy industry experience, with expertise in renewable resource planning and procurement, resource and transmission planning for utilities and large power systems and has substantial experience in the design and operation of energy and environmental markets. He has extensive experience in resource procurement and portfolio management for load serving entities, competitive energy and environmental commodity market design, environmental commodity trading, and strategic planning for electric utilities, transmission operators, and other electric market participants.

Tim holds an M.A. in Technology, Strategy & Policy from Boston University and an M.S. from Michigan State University.


Josh Finn, Renewable Energy Specialist, Renewable Energy Group, Black & Veatch

Joshua S. Finn is a Renewable Energy Specialist in Black & Veatch's renewable energy group in the company's San Francisco office. Josh is active in many types of projects, including renewable energy resource and economic assessments, GIS analyses, energy procurement bid reviews for utilities, and strategic transmission planning to reach renewable energy resources. He holds a bachelor's degree from Brown University.
