With the potential for a significant shortfall in uranium supply worldwide over the next decade and the potential for the significant expansion of nuclear power facilities in several countries, the availability of commercial-grade uranium supply is critical to the nuclear industry. Further, in order to plan the construction of new reactor units at new or existing sites, nuclear utilities will need to be able to predict when new sources of uranium production will be available and to effectively negotiate with producers to obtain the best commercial arrangement possible. Without knowledge of whether there will be domestic supply, an informed decision is not possible. However, with this information nuclear utilities will be able to make their operations more cost-effective, reduce the time associated with securing new sources of supply, and better understand the cost and operational structures of their suppliers. Given the complexities and high level of specialization in identifying and licensing/permitting new uranium sources, nuclear utilities will find this information useful in developing a comprehensive business plan focused on securing new sources of supply in advance of new reactor construction and existing facility expansion.

Several critical questions will be answered during this webinar. How will domestic uranium reserves contribute to the need for additional uranium supply? How can such reserves be recovered by domestic uranium recovery companies for introduction into the nuclear fuel cycle? What are domestic regulatory agencies doing to assist in the licensing/permitting of new and existing uranium recovery facilities? What domestic policy issues could potentially could impact the ability to recover these domestic uranium reserves?

Who Should Attend

  • Nuclear utilities interested in identifying and developing new sources of uranium for their facilities
  • Nuclear fuel professionals interested in uranium supply
  • Reactor operations personnel interested in nuclear fuel supply
  • Personnel working in and supporting nuclear fuel enrichment operations
  • Attorneys and consultants seeking to better understand the federal/state licensing/permitting processes for new uranium recovery facilities
  • Policymakers and government relations specialists seeking information regarding what policy initiatives may be relevant to current uranium supplies
  • Suppliers supporting any facet of the nuclear fuel cycle
  • Public affairs and communication specialists responsible for conveying nuclear supply information to the public regarding potential avenues for uranium supply

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss current uranium supply issues at nuclear facilities
  • Identify licensing/permitting issues associated with domestic uranium recovery and how they affect potential future uranium supply
