The NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards present a unique and daunting challenge to the organizations that operate the bulk power system. The standards and requirements are substantial, with the security of the grid, and our entire nation, at stake. Compliance to the CIP standards involves a myriad of departments that are used to being islands in the utility. Now that mandatory compliance is being enforced, how do Physical Security, IT and Information Security work with Human Resources and Operations to meet these security and compliance objectives? This conference will provide an overview of the considerations and complexities for CIP compliance and offer solutions to get the entire enterprise on the road to CIP compliance.

  • Review key changes that are in process for the NERC CIP standards
  • Analyze the impact of Smart Grid technologies and the application of NERC CIP standards at the distribution level
  • Examine how to use past cyber security expenditures and programs to support sustainable NERC CIP compliance
  • Review the integration of NERC CIP, NIST and ISO 27001 to create a holistic NERC CIP program
  • Discuss the Regional Entity perspective of CIP compliance and enforcement, thus far
  • Demonstrate and solve cross department communication issues in order to support a enterprise wide CIP compliance program
  • Identify best practices and lessons learned from leading utilities as they are integrating systems and implementing program to become NERC CIP compliant in key security areas

Requirements for Successful Completion of Program

Participants must sign in/out each day and be in attendance for the entirety of the conference to be eligible for continuing education credit.

This program will use Case Studies, PowerPoint Presentations and Panel Discussions.
