One year after the enablement of Ontario's Feed-in Tariff (FIT) as a part of Ontario's Green Energy and Green Economy Act, North America's first comprehensive FIT program is moving full-steam ahead. The FIT is designed to spur renewable energy growth by offering a guaranteed pricing structure for electricity produced from renewable resources, and it has done exactly that. The Ontario Power Authority has offered FIT contracts large and small to developers representing all of the major renewable technologies. Although the FIT has been extremely successful in stimulating renewable energy development, the process remains a work in progress.

This conference will outline the major provisions of Ontario's FIT, and describe the key issues associated with the implementation of this new policy. It will address the impact the FIT has had on obtaining project finance, and discuss the importance of engaging First Nations in the process. It will provide an in-depth explanation of the domestic content rule, and will review the implications of the rule now and into the future. The conference will review the impact of adding renewable resources to the grid both in terms of the transmission and distribution challenges as well as the effect these resources will have on system reliability. Finally, it will outline the FIT application and contract negotiation process and provide advice on how to proceed.
