In the Western United States and Canada the need for new electricity transmission continues to grow due to increasing load and the push to attach renewable energy sources to the grid. There are major projects being planned, sited and built in every region of western North America. However, the process continues to be cumbersome, time consuming and costly. With so many stakeholders involved, from federal and state regulators, environmental organizations, renewable energy developers along with the organizations that are financing, planning and building transmission - how can the ends really meet?

This EUCI conference will discuss how current regional planning efforts, siting experiences and regulations are impacting western transmission expansion. This conference will explore these issues in-depth with all the parties that must work together to ensure new transmission can be built to meet the challenge of providing enough reliable, green power for the west.

Who Should Attend

Energy Company Staff from the Following Areas:

  • Transmission Owners, Operators and Planners
  • Regulatory Affairs Professionals
  • Renewable Energy Project Managers and Developers

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify current activities at the regional level, how they will integrate with each other and the impact they will have west wide
  • Examine lessons learned through successfully siting a high voltage transmission project
  • Discuss HVDC and it's role in integrating renewable resources into the grid
  • Review the status of the Western Interconnection Synchrophasor Program and how it will affect and shape the transmission system
